10 Workout Tips

After weight loss surgery, it is important that you get regular physical activity to take and keep the weight off. Here are a few tips to help solidify your commitment to a healthier lifestyle:

  1. Find a friend to work out with. If you have a regular appointment with someone else, you will feel more pressure to stick with your exercise routine.
  2. Set attainable goals. Your weight loss after bariatric surgery will be gradual. It will take some time for you to take off all the weight and become more fit.
  3. Set up a consistent routine. If working out is part of your everyday life, you are more likely to stick with it.
  4. Vary your routine with strength training, aerobics and interval training. You will need all three to become more fit and take off the weight.
  5. Time your workouts for the time of day when you have the most energy. For instance, if you are a morning person, start your day with a brisk walk around one of Ft. Worth’s public parks.
  6. Pick activities you enjoy. If you do not enjoy aerobic classes, for instance, chances are you will stop going. Find an activity you enjoy instead, maybe get a membership to the local pool and swim laps in the evening.
  7. If hitting the gym takes too much time, consider working out at home. All you need is a clear space and a workout DVD.
  8. Consider hiring a personal trainer to help you develop a routine that works for you. Their specialized training can help you put together an effective system.
  9. Join an online community dedicated to getting fit. Having access to a lot of people with the same goals helps support yours.
