Folahan Ayoola, M.D.

Dr. Ayoola completed medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he was class co-president for the duration of his attendance. Then he completed his medical residency at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he received the IA Bigger award – the highest award bestowed to any surgical resident at his program. This is a testament to his integrity, leadership, teaching and clinical ability. He stayed at Virginia Commonwealth University for additional Fellowship Training in Bariatric Surgery and Minimally Invasive (Laparoscopic) Surgery. As such, he takes a minimally invasive approach whenever possible to ensure faster and less painful recovery for his patients after surgery.

Dr. Ayoola practices at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Flower Mound, Medical City Frisco and Baylor Trophy Club. He is the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Texas Health in Flower Mound and serves on multiple steering committees at Medical City Frisco. Dr. Ayoola is a speaker for multiple weight-loss pharmaceutical companies – educating physicians on the safe and efficacious use of these drugs. As an expert in the field, Dr. Ayoola also proctors and trains physicians interested in using the Da Vinci robotic platform for precise and safe robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Ayoola is an active member of the Texas Association of Bariatric Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric surgery, where he serves on various committees. Dr. Ayoola is board certified in General Surgery with Fellowship Training in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery.

Tarik Al-Kalla, M.D.

Dr. Al-Kalla graduated from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and then completed a general surgery residency at Michigan State University/Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dr. Al-Kalla then completed rigorous fellowship training in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at St. Luke’s Surgical Specialists in Kansas City, Missouri, before moving to Texas. While in his residency, Dr. Al-Kalla received the Acute Care Surgery Chief Award, one of the highest honors given to chief surgical residents.

Dr. Al-Kalla has significant experience in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery in both general and bariatric surgery. His main interests are in robotic bariatric surgery, hiatal hernia and reflux surgery, as well as abdominal hernia surgery. He uses minimally invasive techniques whenever possible.

Dr. Al-Kalla is board certified in General Surgery with Fellowship Training in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery. He sees patients at all three Weight Loss Specialists of North Texas locations in Denton, Flower Mound and Frisco.

Our Clinical Team

Irene Ayoola, PhD., RN

Irene received her Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She went on to earn her nursing degree from West Coast University, where she graduated at the top of her class.

As Clinical Manager at Weight Loss Specialists of North Texas, Irene works closely with patients before, during and after their chosen weight loss treatment, providing support, education and coordination of care. She also oversees the Weight Loss Specialists support groups.
