How to Become More Assertive

After Bariatric Surgery in Plano, Take a Deep Breath

Bariatric Surgery in Carrollton can help you to lose weight and develop a healthier lifestyle, but in order to get the most out of your weight loss operation you must realize that it is only the first step on the long journey towards becoming a better you. In many cases, the body changes faster than the mind, but in order for the changes made to the body to become lasting changes, you must be open to the emotional and mental changes, as well as the physical ones.

Many people that have struggled with their weight have difficulty being assertive. It is not uncommon for overweight people to develop defense mechanisms for dealing with social problems that come with being overweight. It is time to think thin. It is time to stop the self-deprecating humor. It is time to stop avoiding confrontation. It is time to be assertive.

Sometimes, it is as easy as making a commitment to change a little bit every day. Every day do one thing that challenges your comfort zone. It may be difficult at first, but soon being assertive will be as natural to you as being diffident used to be. Here are a few little things you can do every day to begin changing how you think and act.

Make a commitment to square your shoulders and look people in the eye when you speak to them. Do not look off to the side or turn your body away. That is not what a confident person does. A confident person faces people head on, looks them in the eye, and smiles.

Make a commitment to stop asking questions and start making statements. Stop ending your sentences as if they are an inquiry. Simply state your opinion, and be open to feedback. Do not defer before an objection is even raised.

Do not bring up your weight. If someone else does, you should thank them for the compliment and move on. People that are comfortable and confident about how they look do not seek the approval of others. They know they look good. Know you look good and move on to other things.

This list is by no means all-inclusive. These are just a few basic ways that you can begin to change the way you think. Bariatric Surgery in Carrollton can change the way you look, but it is up to you to match your mind to your new body.
