Surgical Weight Loss Goals

Can you explain your weight loss goals clearly? If not, it may be time to take another look at them and see if you can break things down a bit. Clear, reachable goals are important to have when it comes to weight loss surgery, and your success depends on it. You can work to create both short-term and long-term goals, but try not to pick too many to work on at once, or it can begin to feel overwhelming. After all, you want to encourage yourself, not put a lot of pressure on yourself.

Short-term goals can work a little better if they are about the journey, not about numbers. For example, rather than saying you want to lose a pound a week, why not outline some diet and exercise goals instead. Keep the focus on the positive and on moving forward. That way if you are doing all the right things and you don’t lose a pound, you haven’t “failed”. The idea is to change lifestyle habits and sometimes this doesn’t happen in a clear, numerical fashion. To succeed in any weight loss program your goals will need to be evaluated regularly as well. Make sure you build that in as part of the process and it will help you stay on track.
